Abstract

While virtually all colleges and universities are attentive to improved racial dynamics, they often fail to examine how their racial endeavors are affected by or affect other institutional assumptions, values, ideals, expectations, or practices despite ve ry frequent competition with other presumably opposing institutional interests. Although such conflicts are neither natural or stable, they have very real consequences that can potentially obstruct racial progress by neutralizing even the most promising efforts toward diversity.
