Abstract

As poverty becomes increasingly urbanized, access to clean water will become a growing political concern for national and local governments throughout the world. Over the next century, the need for clean water in cities will bring attention to the weaknesses in certain urban governments, while straining public health institutions, the environment, and the informal mechanisms that support urban growth.
