Abstract

In a 1984 interview, Germaine Berger describes her work as a film colourist for Pathé, where she was hired at the age of fourteen in 1911. Creating the stencil-coloured prints was delicate work for which only women were hired. Working conditions in the factory are described. When Pathé's colouring operation ceased in 1927, Berger continued to work in the industry until the arrival of television.
