Abstract

Potential high school Latin teachers face a variety of obstacles, but they also stand to gain from earning state certification. Administrators and program coordinators likewise face serious obstacles to operating a Latin teacher training program. Potential Latin teachers can maximize their options by seeking dual certification; the profession however, must also do its part to support the training of high school Latin teachers. In the face of prestige demands leveled by college and university administrators, classicists must vigorously assert the value of Latin secondary education and the training of future teachers.
