Iuliu Raţiu
Romania, Author

Iului Raţiu was born in 1930 in Oltenesti Crasna, in the district of Vaslui. He attended university in Bucharest, gaining a diploma in psychology and pedagogy.

In 1949 he became a member of the Writers' Union. He has worked as an editor for a number of magazines, including the publications for children, Luminita and Arici Pogornici. In December 1989 he founded and was editorin chief of a number of children's magazines: Elf, Top Junior, Mini Junior and Children's Venus.

He has published over 30 books, including novels, plays, short-story collections and essays. Some of these are translated into Hungarian, Polish and Russian.

His plays have been performed on the stage and on radio, and two received the Writers'Association Prize, Bucharest. Another award-winning play, The Bold from Scale II, has been made into the first Romanian full-length animation film.
