In 1968, Théophile Desbonnets and Damien Vorreux published the volume Saint François d’Assise. Documents, écrits et premières biographies: it was the first anthology of Franciscan early sources in a modern language. Forty years after, a new edition was needed. Published through Éditions franciscaines and Éditions du Cerf, under the direction of Jacques Dalarun, the new edition will offer a more abundant choice of texts, with entirely new French translations, new introductions partly written in collaboration with the Franciscan Institute of St. Bonaventure University (NY), with the support of the Scuola superiore di studi medievali e francescani of the Pontifical University Antonianum and the Collegio San Bonaventura. The hope of such a project is also to open a new season of international collaboration in Franciscan studies.
