Change in MFS Publication Schedule

Because of unforseen circumstances, the announced MFS special issue on "The Cultural Politics of Displacement" scheduled to appear as Vol. 40/1 has been cancelled: the MFS editors and the guest editor for the special issue, Barbara Harlow regret the personal circumstances that led to the halting of work on this project. Vol. 40/1 of MFS is now scheduled to be a "general issue," but we are pleased that, in keeping with the original theme of the issue, all of the essays to be published in 40/1 arise from cultural approaches to modern and contemporary narrative. We are also pleased to announce that the Toni Morrison special issue, guest-edited by Nancy Peterson, has received such a large and excellent response in our call for papers that it will become the first double issue in the history of MFS. Volume 39/3-4 will contain nearly 300 pages of essays, reviews, photographs, graphics, and a selected bibliography of scholarship on Morrison. Erratum

In the 38.4 issue of MFS (Winter 1992), dollar signs were substituted for pound signs at several points in Mark Osteen's essay "The Money Question at the Back of Everything: Clichés, Counterfeits and Forgeries in Joyce's 'Eumaeus.'" MFS regrets this mistake caused by a software translation error.

World War II-A Fifty Year Perspective, June 1-2, 1995

Siena College is sponsoring its ninth annual international, multidisciplinary conference on the 50th anniversary of World War II. The focus for 1995 will be 1945, though papers dealing with broad issues of earlier years will be welcomed. Appropriate topics include, but are not limited to: the air war; the Italian campaign; the war in Northwestern Europe, from the elimination of the Bulge to the Rhine crossings, from the meeting on the Elbe to the surrender; the North Atlantic; the Naval war in the Pacific from Okinawa and the Philippines; the Red Army; the liberation of ancient capitals and the liberation of the camps; governments in exile from London to Moscow; literature; art; film; diplomatic, political and military history; biography-Hitler and Mussolini, DeGaulle and FDR, Churchill and Truman; Yalta and Teheran; popular culture; minority issues; women's studies; Asian; African; Latin American and New Eastern topics; religion, pacifism, conscription; home front events—rationing, sports, education, price control, reconversion; post-war planning as well as draft resistance and dissent will also be of considerable interest. African Cinema

A special edition of Research in African Literatures will be devoted to African Cinema. Please submit entries dealing with African film or African film criticism to Kenneth W. Islam and African Literature

A second volume of "Faces of Islam in African Literature" will appear that will focus on Islam in African literature, including the following topics: Maghrebian literature; comparative studies of Maghrebian and sub-Saharan African literature; women and Islam in African literature; Islam in African language literatures; Islam in regions outside dar-es-Sudan (i.e. in regions where Islam in not the majority religion); the work of Farah; Islam in Nigerian literature, in South African literature, or in other regional literatures.
