The Editors of MFS are proud to announce the winners of the third Margaret Church MFS Memorial Prize. THOMAS C. BEATTIE, whose "Moments of Meaning Dearly Achieved: Virginia Woolf's Sense of an Ending" appeared in the Winter issue (volume 32, number 4, 521-541), and RONALD R. THOMAS, whose "In the Company of Strangers: Absent Voices in Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Beckett's Company" appeared in the Summer issue (volume 32, number 2, 157-173), were judged authors of the best articles to appear in 1986. Mr. Beattie and Mr. Thomas each received $125 and his certificate appearing opposite.

The outside panel of judges making the selection was composed of Louis J. Budd (chairman), Duke Professor of English, Duke University, and Managing Editor, American Literature; Daniel R. Schwarz, Professor of English, Cornell University; and Claire Sprague, Professor of English, Brooklyn College, and Editor, Doris Lessing Newsletter.

The Editors of Modern Fiction Studies congratulate Mr. Beattie, who is Professor and Chair of the English Department at Hartwick College, and Mr. Thomas, who is Assistant Professor of English at the University of Chicago. We are also grateful to the selection committee for the many hours they devoted to selecting this year's winners.

The Margaret Church MFS Memorial Prize was established in 1984 in memory of Ms. Church, Professor of English and of Comparative Literature here at Purdue University and long-time co-Editor of this journal. She died in 1982. Winners of this annual prize will be announced in summer issues of MFS.
