The Child and the Story: The Importance of Narrative, Past, Present, and Future

Papers and proposals for discussion sections are invited on any facet of the story-making process. Topics might focus on such subjects as: traditional forms, oral or written or dramatic, and their significance and/or relevance to contemporary or future audiences; the role of the illustrator as creator of visual narratives; examinations of narrative technique in particular genres or writers; storytelling in media other than print; poetry as a medium for storytelling; critical theories about or methods for approaching narrative; the cultural, social, or psychic significance of stories; the future of storytelling forms.

Those submitting papers are requested to put their names on a title page only: papers will be coded and sent to committee members for "blind reading." Papers should be approximately 8-10 pages, double-spaced, or 20 minutes' reading time. Three copies, accurately typed, accompanied by a half-page abstract and SSAE should be sent to Professor Douglas Street, English Dept., Texas A&M Univ., College Station, TX77843. Deadline for submission is November 15, 1981. Authors of papers are required to attend the conference at their own expense to present their papers in person.
