Clarification

An article on the ChLA appeared in the June 15, 1981 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education. It was welcome publicity, but also contained some misinformation, including an inaccurate description of the origin of the ChLA. Francelia Butler writes:

"I think it might be well to make clear that Anne Devereaux Jordan is the founder of the Association. A number of people helped her here at the organizational meetings in Wood Hall, including Jan Bakker, now head of the American Studies program at the University of Jobyakarta in Indonesia, who served as photographer, Bennett Brockman, medievalist here, John Graham, drama professor at the University of Virginia, Glenn Sadler, who teaches children's literature at several California universities, Jon Stott, English professor at the University of Alberta. I helped some, too."
