Young Drama P.O. Box 2, Stroud, Glos., England. GLS 5 BE. February, June, October. $5.50 annually.

There is a new publication dealing specifically with children's drama, appropriately named Young Drama. Young Drama is published by the Thimble Press, England, in association with Heinemann Educational Books, under the editorship of Nancy Chambers. The purpose and scope of the publication are explained in the editorial of the first edition (February, 1973): to provide a vehicle for the exchange of ideas and experiences of various people in the field of children's theater and creative dramatics. The first edition contains a wide and varied series of articles.

David Adland's article, "A Room Full of Shylocks," is of particular interest as it presents an account of a class using creative dramatics for the study of Shakespeare in a classroom situation. It demonstrates what can be accomplished by a group approach in the interpretation of The Merchant of Venice.

There are additional articles discussing the use and aim of documentary material in creative drama. This is followed by a Workshop Section featuring stories and poems suitable for development through creative dramatics, including suggestions for music, mime, and movement.

In addition, there are articles exploring several fallacies in contemporary theories of young drama, especially as approached from the educational point of view, and how one person established, maintained, and improved drama classes for less than privileged children. These articles, plus a section of reviews on current youth scripts and additional drama publications, complete the material included in the first issue.

The magazine promises to accomplish its purpose as set forth by Ms. Chambers. It presents a varied choice of subject matter and valuable information for the follower of current thoughts and trends in young drama.
