In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

  • A Note from the Editor
  • Heather Hendershot

Greetings! I am quite honored to be the new editor of Cinema Journal. With the next issue, we will premiere a new feature, book reviews. The section will be edited by Amanda Lotz and will frequently be linked thematically to In Focus, a wonderful feature conceived by Jon Lewis that will continue under my tenure. We can run only a small number of reviews, so the idea is not to provide “full coverage,” but rather to spark discussion about books of interest to a wide range of SCMS members. Also, starting in the next issue, Professional Notes will only be available online. Members can continue to submit calls for papers and conferences to the SCMS Forum on our website, and publications will still be listed in Professional Notes. Materials from the journal appearing on the website may initially only appear in PDF format; please be patient as we make the online transition.

Starting with this issue, In Focus will be posted on the Cinema Journal link at the SCMS Web site. It will be available for a limited period of time to the general public and, thereafter, shifted to a members-only area. We hope that you will spread the word about the new availability of this content. It would be wonderful if this increased nonmember traffic to the site and got more people interested in both SCMS and Cinema Journal. In Focus will continue its life in print as well, and it will continue to be available via Project Muse.

I look forward to the next five years. To paraphrase a certain Charles Foster Kane, I thought it would be fun to run a journal. [End Page 3]
