In my review of George J. Searles's The Fiction of Philip Roth and John Updike in the Summer issue of MFS (Vol. 31, p. 416), one of the chapter titles of his book was referred to as "Modis Operandi"—with the unintentional imputation that the typo, Modis for Modus, was his, not mine. I apologize to Mr. Searles.
