Winner of the ChLA Scholarship Award for 1984-85 was Anita C. Wilson of the Department of English at Miami University in Ohio. [End Page 110] Professor Wilson received the award to forward her work in the criticism and reviewing of children's literature in British Victorian periodicals. In particular, she will compare assessments of children's books in religious and secular periodicals, examine Victorian responses to fairy tales, and discuss the roles of social class distinction as a significant influence upon the criticism of Victorian juvenile literature.

Winner of the 1984-85 Weston Woods Scholarship was Jill P. May of Purdue University, Indiana. Professor May will reassess the impact of the Disney touch, focusing especially on Bambi, to ascertain whether Disney's reputation for vulgarizing and popularizing is merited. She believes, especially in this case, the charge may not be true.
