Announcements Conference on the Scottish Tradition in Philosophy. As its contribution to the Quincentenary celebrations of the University.of Aberdeen, the Philosophy Department is organizing an international conference on the above theme. The cont~erence will be divided into four sections--three chronologically based, on pre-Enlightenment and post-Enlightenment Scottish Philosophy, and one on "The Living Tradition," the continuing influence of the Scottish tradition on philosophy worldwide. In each session there will be a plenary session, addressed by a distinguished invited speaker, and a number of sessions for short submitted papers (3ooo-4ooo words in length). Professor and the late Mrs. Colin Turbayne established an International Berkeley Prize competition in conjunction with the Philosophy Department at the University of Rochester. The next deadline for submitting papers is November a, 1994. Submissions on any aspect of Berkeley's philosophy are welcome. Essays should be new and unpublished and should be written in English and not exceed 5ooo words in length. All references to Berkeley should be to Luce/ Jessop, and an MLA or similar standard for notes should be followed. Submissions will be judged by members of a review board selected by the Department of Philosophy at the University of Rochester. The winner will be announced March 1, 1995 and will receive a prize of $2ooo.
