Andy Bruno is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His dissertation will concentrate on the environmental history of late imperial and Soviet campaigns for modernization and industrialization.

Yves Cohen is directeur d'études at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris (France). He recently published "La co-construction de la personne et de la bureaucratie: Aspects de la subjectivité de Staline et des cadres soviétiques (années 30)" (The Co-Construction of the Person and the Bureaucracy: Aspects of Subjectivity in Stalin and Soviet Cadres in the 1930s), in Stalinistische Subjekte / Stalinist Subjects / Sujets staliniens: Individuum und System in der Sowjetunion und der Komintern, 1929–1953, ed. Brigitte Studer and Heiko Haumann (2006), 175–96. He is completing a book on comparative and connected history of leadership cultures and practices in Western Europe, the Soviet Union, and the United States in the first half of the 20th Century.

James Frank Goodwin is Assistant Professor of Russian Studies at the University of Florida. He is completing a book manuscript on Dostoevskii's Demons and the legacy of anarchism in Russian literature and thought.

Stephen Kotkin, in addition to co-teaching World History since Chinggis Khan at Princeton University, serves as chairman of the editorial board of Princeton University Press and as one of the two book reviewers for the New York Times Sunday Business section.

Maxim Waldstein (Kupovykh) is currently Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. His articles have appeared in Social Identities; Media, Culture, and Society; and Novoe literaturnoe obozrenie. He is currently working on a book project in which he explores the social history of Soviet cultural studies after Stalin with a major focus on the Tartu semiotics school.
