There are so many pennies on a hill: gather them if you can, they will only give you a penny for a penny. How can you live like that going up and down the levee looking for pennies, the lake black like that or the river flat and copper in the sun the lake out there that fed the river the pennies in the grass like faces of people you wanted to know lying face up or face down?

There are so many pennies and so much time how will you know when you stoop in the grass, when you kneel with your face to a copper face your face in the grass and the weeds? Dandelions grow there hundreds in spring but only so many pennies then they'll be gone and they only give you a penny for your thoughts a penny for a song a penny for a penny.
