Editor's Note

Because of needs within Purdue University's Department of English, Nancy Peterson has decided to step down as associate editor of MFS in order to serve as associate head. Over the last thirteen years, Nancy has edited or co-edited several special issues—both Toni Morrison issues, Native American Literature, and "Racechange and the Fictions of Identity." Nancy has always exemplified the best of editorial practices, from the initial screening of manuscripts to through the final copyediting of each. She will be sorely missed in this office.

Although no longer contributing to the day-to-day operations of the journal, Nancy will continue to serve as a member of the Purdue Advisory Board of MFS. This academic year, two people will be filling in as we search for Nancy's replacement. In the fall William (Joe) Palmer, the previous editor of MFS, will lend his talents, and in the spring Maren Linett has agreed to help out.

I am pleased to announce that the Department of English has been authorized to search for a new associate editor. The full text of advertisement that will appear in the MLA Job List and various other professional resources reads as follows:

Associate Professor of British and Postcolonial Fiction / Associate Editor of Modern Fiction Studies

Associate Professor of British and postcolonial fiction after 1945 who will also serve as the Associate Editor of Modern Fiction Studies. We seek a candidate broadly knowledgeable about contemporary British and postcolonial fiction who is interested in working with an internationally recognized journal. Previous editorial experience preferred. The Associate Editor will help screen submissions, copyedit accepted essays, and assign book reviews. Teaching responsibilities (three courses per year while serving as Associate Editor) typically include one graduate course per year. Ph.D. in relevant field required. Starting date: August 13, 2007. Initial review of applications will begin Nov. 1, 2006, and will continue until position is filled. Interviews at MLA.
