The preservation, care and exploitation of documentation related to the cinema: an unresolved issue

Film archives have not yet developed uniform cataloguing standards for photographs, production records and advertising materials, yet such artifacts can be crucial in more sophisticated film restoration projects. The article describes work being done through the European COLLATE project towards establishing such standards, as well as a common means of searching and sharing information.
