"A Little Toil of Love" is a translation of "Petits Travaux," a chapter from Pierre Nepveu's 1998 book Intérieurs du Nouveau Monde. Emily Dickinson began to be widely read in Quebec in the 1980s, and Nepveu's chapter places her poetry in the context of French Canada's always tormented relation with America.
