  • Editors' Note

The editors of the Bulletin, the members of the Advisory Editorial Board, and the officers of the AAHM have been considering ways to make the journal more current. We'd like to open the journal to a variety of articles on subjects of broad interest to our readers.

To begin, we will turn the Spring 2007 Bulletin into a Special Issue, devoted entirely to the proceedings of a conference on the history of cancer treatment that took place at the National Library of Medicine in Fall 2004. The issue will contain about 15 articles, and the guest editor for the issue will be David Cantor.

Other suggestions for diversifying the Bulletin have included articles commemorating milestones in the history of medicine—for example, the twenty-fifth anniversary of an important book (a set of articles could discuss the book and ensuing scholarship); exploration of broad topics, such as current feminist thought in the history of medicine; essays dealing with controversies in the history of medicine, which could offer several points of view; and "state of the field" review articles that could be commissioned by the editors.

As we expand our reach, we would still maintain our usual standards: prospective articles would undergo the journal's normal peer-review process.

The editors hope that readers of the Bulletin will respond to the above-mentioned ideas, offering suggestions for themes, authors, and types of articles. Let us know your thoughts; we'd like to hear from you.
