From the Editor

The range of topics dealt with in this set of articles clearly reflects the multiplicity of subjects being investigated by Latin American and Latinamericanist geographers, and their multilingual presentations also remind us of the rich diversity of modes of expression. I am delighted to report, and readers will surely note, that we are now attracting submissions from our Latin American and European colleagues, a pattern that we hope will continue in the future.

With this second issue of 2005 we have now become, technically, from a bibliographic perspective, a true journal, rather than an annual, and I have to thank the authors and all the referees who made the preparation of this issue such a pleasure.

Readers will also note that this edition of the Journal contains a new section: "Film Reviews." It was decided that given the use of such resources in many of our courses on Latin America, it would be useful to have substantive reviews of films suitable for classroom use, given that many students may learn more from films than they do from printed sources. I am delighted to report that from the first issue of 2006, Gary Elbow of Texas Tech University has agreed to become the film review editor for the Journal.

La variedad de temas incluidos en esta colección de artículos refleja claramente la multiplicidad de materias investigadas por los geógrafos latinoamericanos y latinoamericanistas, y sus presentaciones multilingües también nos recuerdan la rica diversidad en los modos de expresión. Me siento muy satisfecho de informarles, y los lectores deben haberlo notado, que estamos recibiendo manuscritos de nuestros colegas de América Latina y Europa, una modalidad que esperamos ver progresar en el futuro cercano.

Con esta segunda edición de 2005, ya hemos llegado a ser, desde la perspectiva técnica de los bibliógrafos, una revista y no un anuario, por lo que debo agradecer a todos los autores y colegas evaluadores de los manuscritos su apoyo; trabajo que ha hecho realmente placentera la labor de preparar la presente edición.

Los lectores también notarán que esta edición incluye una nueva sección: "Revisión de películas." Decidimos que, dado la utilización de tales recursos en muchos de nuestros cursos universitarios sobre América Latina, sería útil tener revisiones críticas de películas apropiadas para uso didáctico, especialmente, tomando en cuenta que en nuestros días muchos estudiantes, quizá, recuerden mejor imágenes del cine que la mera lectura de textos. Me complace informarles que a partir de la primera edición del 2006, Gary Elbow de la Texas Tech Universidad, ha aceptado el cargo de editor de la revisión de películas para la revista.
