Volume 35 concludes our tenure as editors of Cuban Studies. We have been privileged to serve in that capacity for the past six volumes. The editorship now passes on to a foremost figure among historians of Cuba, Louis A. Pérez Jr. of the University of North Carolina. Given Lou's scholarly career, readers of Cuban Studies have every reason to look forward to the forthcoming volumes under his stewardship.

During the past six years, we have felt gratified by both the breadth and depth of the field. Cuban Studies is a growing field, attracting scholars from a wide range of disciplines. We believe we have succeeded in publishing articles that reflect the rich multidisciplinary nature of the work being done on Cuba. We are also proud that we have published so many articles by authors that are just embarking on their careers. Manuscripts derived from doctoral dissertations have been plentiful in the pages of CS during our editorship and we believe that has served to enrich our field with fresh approaches and perspectives.

We have also sought, with some success, to include in every issue articles written by colleagues in the island and to make the issue more bilingual so as to better represent the field.

Throughout these six years we have had the unwavering support of colleagues at FIU. Sherry Johnson and Damián Fernández have ably served as Book Review Editors, while Marian Goslinga undertook the gargantuan task of compiling the Recent Work on Cuba bibliographic section, with splendid results. Susie Penley of the Cuban Research Institute was the indispensable force that administratively brought everything together. We are indebted to all of them. [End Page vii]
