Shilpa Raval, a member of our editorial collective and an assistant professor of Latin literature in the Classics Department at Yale, died on May 23, 2004 after a diagnosis of cancer just months before. She was 34. Shilpa was born in Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India, and emigrated to the United States at the age of two with her family. She earned her bachelor's degree in classics and English at Drew University in 1991 and her doctorate at Brown University in 1998. Shilpa specialized in gender and sexuality in the ancient world; her dissertation was on Ovid's Metamorphosis. She taught courses in Latin language and literature, and in classical civilization. She is survived by her husband, Ted Bromund, Associate Director of International Security Studies and a lecturer in History at Yale.

Shilpa was a cherished colleague and an enthusiastic editor of the journal. We miss her terribly.
