  • Queer TV Style:Introduction
  • Chris Straayer and Tom Waugh

As the new moving image review editors for GLQ, we welcome this exciting opportunity to enable a forum on queer issues. Our plan is to alternate traditional review articles with alternative formats, and we invite submissions for both. We begin with a dossier on contemporary developments in queer television in this moment of rapidly proliferating discourses about queer political rights. Struck by the media salience of The L Word and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and eager for more serious consideration of the mainstreaming of queer style than has been available in the Advocate, we solicited short essays from several scholars in a range of disciplines. In the following compilation, Sasha Torres, Anna McCarthy, José Esteban Muñoz, Tavia Nyong'o, Jaap Kooijman, Gustavus T. Stadler, and Toby Miller address concerns from the commodification of queerness to the pink dollar, from desexualization to queer inflections of class and race, from queer aesthetic servitude to metrosexual life and work pressures, from heterosexual abjection to the straight tendency to provide the queerest moments.
