Abstract

Building upon an earlier study by Milem and Umbach (2003), this study explores the relative impact of students'diversity-related experiences and plans at time of entry to college and students' exposure to diverse others and diverse ideas while in college on their involvement in diversity related activities two years after entering college. Findings indicate that greater relative exposure to diverse information and ideas in college plays an important role in stimulating greater involvement in diversity related activities outside the classroom.
