Edward C. Halperin, M.D., F.A.C.R., is the author of Pediatric Radiation Oncology (first edition, 1989; second edition, 1994; third edition, 1999), and he is presently working on Principles and Practice of Radiation Oncology, fourth edition. Richard J. Kahn is a general internist practicing at Penobscot Bay Medical Center with clinical teaching positions at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and Dartmouth Medical School. His major research interest in late 18th and early 19th Century medicine led to his article "The Medical Repository–The First U.S. Medical Journal (1797—1824)" in 1997. Works in progress include a paper on Noah Webster’s "A Brief History of Epidemic and Pestilential Diseases" and eventual publication of an annotated transcription of Jeremiah Barker’s early 19th century manuscript, "Diseases of the District of Maine . . . 1735—1820."
