Beginning with this issue, members of all divisions of the Society for Women in Philosophy, including Canadian SWIP and Australian SWIP, and members of the International Association of Women Philosophers (IAPh) can subscribe to Hypatia for an annual subscription rate of $19.50. If you are currently a member of SWIP, be sure to renew your membership this year to take advantage of this extraordinary offer. If you are not currently a member of SWIP, contact information for the various divisions are contained in our announcement section, or check the SWIP Webpage at www.uh.edu/~cfreelan/SWIP.
We would also like to urge you to support the Hypatia International Fund. Through this fund, subscriptions to Hypatia are sent to a number of international universities that would not otherwise be able to subscribe. Just a few quotes from those receiving Hypatia through the International Fund will give you a sense of the importance of these subscriptions. From Olga Voronina, Director of the Moscow Center for Gender Studies: “MCGS has received Hypatia for a number of years and we are very thankful for that donation. MCGS has many contacts with feminist/gender researchers and lecturers not only from Moscow, but from different parts of Russia. Many of these scholars read Hypatia.” From Zuzana Martinkovicová of Trnavska Univerzita in Slovakia: “The journal Hypatia obtained through your Society is a valuable source of information for our students and is an irreplaceable part of the reading room of the University Library.” From Maria Joo, Department of Philosophy of Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest, Hungary: “We make use of Hypatia because of the lack of a real collection of feminist books in Budapest. I have an increasing number of students interested in feminist studies—last semester, about 150!” From Ebijuwa Temisanren, Women Studies Programme of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, Nigeria: “Hypatia is a ready source of literature for our students in the Women Studies Programme. And our departmental library in which Hypatia is shelved is open to the entire University community. We are indeed grateful to your organization for your unconditional assistance.” And from the Korolenuo State Scientific Library in Kharkiv, Ukraine: “A lot of women in the Ukraine are concerned with feminist ideas now. Your journal has proven to be of particular interest and great importance for our readers studying the subject and is always much in demand.” [End Page vii]
You can contribute to the Hypatia International Fund either by sending your tax-free contribution directly to the Hypatia offices (see Guidelines for Contributors in this issue for our address) or by including a contribution with your regular dues payments to SWIP. We also solicit suggestions from SWIP members for other programs or institutions to fund in this way. Send your suggestions directly to the Hypatia offices. You may elect to fully fund the cost of an international subscription and have it sent to the institution of your choice, either in your name or anonymously. Contact the Hypatia offices for additional information.
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to those at the University of Oregon and the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona whose support has made our editorship of Hypatia possible. At the University of Oregon: the Center for the Study of Women in Society, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Humanities Center, the Office of the Vice-President for Research, the Department of Philosophy, and the Department of English. At Cal Poly Pomona: the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences, and the Philosophy Department. Laurie would also like to thank the Stanford Humanities Center for providing a great place to work while learning the ropes of editing.
